Profile In our laboratory, as a Faculty of Urban Life Studies, we are studying design methods, techniques and knowledge to make it attractive, targeting all the spaces and things that we come into contact with in our daily lives. Recently, we are investigating and designing the fusion of architectural design such as housing, offices, and commerce with urban design of infrastructure facing rivers and coasts, which are urban infrastructure facilities, from the viewpoint of disaster prevention. In addition, from the perspective of urban life in a new era, we are proposing and researching the ideal way of public works and private management as a concrete measure design. As an example, we are designing a new landscape in the waterside space of the Kanda River and Nihonbashi River basins, which connects from the Sotobori space, which is the remains of Edo Castle from Ichigaya to Iidabashi in Tokyo. Furthermore, along with the road maintenance project proposal in Kamakura City, we are proceeding with the design of a new type of tsunami evacuation facility together with related companies.
Research Field(Keyword & Summary)
  1. (1)Research on” Green-Infrastructure” using architectural design methods

Many of our existing infrastructures must be renewed due to changes in the environment and structural deterioration. In the past, revetment design and road design were mainly positioned as “Gray Iinfrastructure”, and the method of hardware design alone was the main method. However, it is necessary to promote “Green Infrastructure” design to apply and utilize the functions of the natural environment to solve various problems in society. We study the fusion of architectural space design and infrastructure by qualitative and quantitative analysis of the activities of urban dwellers.

  2. (2)Tsunami evacuation facility considering regional landscape design

In Japan, there are concerns about large subduction-zone earthquake-type tsunamis. The first priority is to safely evacuate and save lives against the largest tsunami (class L2) hazard. Beyond the general scope of existing emergency evacuation facility structures, we propose the daily use and use of citizens in the coastal areas based on a completely new idea, and make proposals that are fully conscious of the landscape. In addition to examining the assumptions of evacuees, flooded areas, coastal topography, arrival times, ensuring structural safety, etc., we are also considering various legislation to realize the proposal.
