Profile Our research theme is the contemporary architectural design and the architectural theory at its roots. We utilise the forms and concepts produced by those architectures through diagrams and words in our education. The research method of working with hands and thinking through words is a long tradition of our school, which starts with Chikatada Kurata, who founded the architecture department. I am also a practitioner of architecture, so we would have actual architectural design work at our laboratory. We aim for a new architectural design and education by expanding out from the conventional frame of universities.
Research Field(Keyword & Summary)
  1. (1) Architectural Structure: Finding out the intangible structures behind architecture

Japan is currently at a turning point from the period of growth to maturity. In order to cope with this transition, it is crucial to learn from the past and connect it to our times.
Thus, our laboratory proposes two academic fields.
    (1) Architectural Structure: Finding out the intangible structures behind architecture
    (2) Architectural Archaeology: Creating contemporary architecture through reconstructing the fragments of history
We are currently focusing on a project where we research the timber tectonics of traditional buildings and reuse them for today's architecture.
