Based on the knowledge of data science, you’ll be responsible for creating new services for a shifting society.
The program provides learning opportunities to cultivate critical thinking and logical reasoning backed with expertise and experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis as well as a good understanding of global literacy. We aim to produce individuals who possess practical expertise with ethical mind along with the ability to conceptualize, design, and construct new and innovative “products” and “services” in order to solve a wide range of real-world problems.
By learning foreign languages and acquiring a broad knowledge of liberal arts, students enhance their international competency and cultivate foundational skills to design and manage new “products” and “services.” The study abroad programs offered to all students and overseas internships also help students develop cross-cultural awareness and expand their global insights.
The COOP program, which combines classroom instruction with off-campus work experience, offers students the opportunity to acquire comprehensive professional competencies that are difficult to obtain through traditional curriculum. Students first receive systematic instruction from practitioner faculty members on report writing, presentations, and other skills necessary, and then work in a corporate setting for a certain period. These experiences enable students to develop practical skills, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to act independently.
Offered in students’ final year, the capstone project serves as the culmination of their studies at the Faculty of Design and Data Science. Students work in teams to solve a variety of issues facing businesses and organizations. After conducting background and literature research on a certain issue, students are expected to develop potential solutions, validate their feasibility and effectiveness through discussions, presentations, and reviews, and then compile a project report. The comprehensive problem-solving skills acquired through this project can be applied to specialized studies in graduate school and their future careers.
Our program prepares students to follow a variety of paths after graduation: advancing to graduate school, securing employment in a wide range of sectors including information and communication technologies and services, design, and consulting as well as government agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations, and starting their own businesses as entrepreneurs. Regardless of their chosen path, graduates will contribute to creating innovative experiences and societies, transcending the boundaries of tradition, with their expertise in data science and ability to design and manage “products” and “services.”
