Profile I’m an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Sociology and Media Studies, at Tokyo City University. I earned a Bachelors degree in Sociology at Tokyo Women’s Christian University in Japan before spending 5 years working for the International Finance Department of the Industrial Bank of Japan and another 5 years working for the International Department at Senshu University as a Japanese teacher. I then attended the graduate school of Shirayuri College majoring in Life Span Development and Cultural Psychology gaining both a PhD degree and the qualification of Clinical Psychologist before starting an academic career in both teaching and research. I teach at Tokyo City University and Tokyo University of Science. My research has embraced Family Psychology in international marriages with a special emphasis on the couple’s relationship. I currently chair the Career Development Committee at Tokyo City University.

    I’ve been doing research on Japanese wives and foreign husband families from a family psychological point of view for 25 years. My specialty is the psychology of the marital relationship between Japanese wives and American husbands who are living both in Japan and the United States.
    I have been conducting family psychological research on marital relationships among Japanese and American couples living in Japan and the U.S. using qualitative research methods based on interviews.
    In recent years, I have been focusing on divorce and marital conflicts among international married couples. In the future I’d like to develop a clinical psychological practice on marital relationships, working with international married couples.
