Profile Hiroyo Sugimoto is working on the research of literature and culture in United States and Japan, especailly from mid-19the century to 1950s. She teaches Englihsh class both of skill-based and contents-based. She recieved her master degree in English from Tokyo Metropolitan University and finished couse work in docotral program at University of Tsukuba. Her reserach topic is linked to her educational practice. Interdiscipiriany teaching is one of her interets which makes her produce a science workshop for kids in TCU and local community.

  1. (1)Furniture and Body in American literature of the 19th century

    In the American literary history, the mid-19th century is considered as the critical point, called "American Renaissance." It tends to be discssed with philosophy like Transcendentalism. It is asscosiated with ouside, isolated, and male. However, in my argument, the literature in the period is strongly connected with inner, kinship, and female.

    American way of life looks a tradition of the United States, but it started from 1950s. I'm working on how it is formed and makes the country look great.

  3. (3) Active Reading

    Reading has a variety of benefits for English Learning. It shuold be developed with active engargement by students.
